I was fortunate enough to have a lot of freedom during student teaching and with that freedom I created "Monster Day." My students and I took an entire day and devoted it to monsters. Below are some of the activities we did.
The goal of monster day was for students to start using describing words. We created a predictable chart to begin that process.
When Monster Day was over I created a bulletin board to remind students of what we learned.
Students used the masks in the books to describe their emotions.
I used a monster book to help students understand different emotions.
We brainstormed different things we knew about monsters.
Every student made a shirt for the day as well as an individualized monster locker tag.
I made monster manipulatives for patterning, sorting and number sense.
Students were encouraged to reread the books we had read throughout the unit on monsters.
One of the centers was made so the students could create "emotional monster cookies."
The students and I thoroughly enjoyed our fun and different day.
