Educational Philosophy
When it comes to education I feel the most important thing to remember is that everyone can learn. No matter how difficult the task, every student has the ability to succeed and master learning. If a teacher approaches a student with less than 100% faith in them, then they are doomed to fail. Students, regardless or age, can sense a teacher’s hesitance in them. So, teachers need to believe in their student’s ability to learn or else it is their own fault when failure occurs.
The best way to help students learn is constant encouragement. Make them believe that you believe they can do it. I am someone who needs to be encouraged and know that someone is rooting for me. So, I implement that into my daily teaching. It breaks my heart when a student says that he or she can not do something. They get so discouraged and down on themselves. I feel as a teacher, it is my job to tell them that they can do it if they just try. Once, they do try and succeed I make sure to acknowledge that accomplishment right away.
Everything mentioned above goes hand in hand with having a good rapport with the students. As a teacher, it is important to be approachable and make your students feel safe and comfortable. It is a good idea to learn about your students. Ask them questions and engage in conversation about their lives. This is helpful in so many ways inside of the classroom. Also, when you have an issue that needs to be discussed with the student it makes easier to solve.
Communication with parents and guardians is a key point to a good education. There needs to be a sense of a team unit between parents, the teacher and the student. Learning is so much easier when you have everyone working together to positively enhance a student’s life.
I hope that by following my philosophy I can be an amazing teacher that can make a difference.
